About Whitman

Whitman is the leading publisher of coin and paper money reference books, as well as archival-quality storage and collecting supplies. For nearly 90 years, we have educated and inspired collectors with trusted resources covering the rich history of American and world coinage, paper currency, tokens, and medals—while providing the tools to organize, protect, and showcase collections for generations.

Our story begins in the 1930s with one passionate collector, Richard S. Yeoman, and a simple line of coin boards produced by Whitman Publishing Company, then a division of Western Publishing. Recognizing the need for reliable market information to support the growing hobby, Yeoman compiled pricing and historical data that led to the publication of Handbook of United States Coins in 1942—the iconic “Blue Book.” In 1946, Whitman introduced A Guide Book of United States Coins—the now legendary “Red Book.”

For nearly eight decades, the Red Book has been the hobby’s flagship reference and the world’s best-selling coin price guide, widely regarded as the “Bible” of American numismatics. Together, the Red Book and Blue Book established the standard for accuracy, research, and accessibility—standards that continue to define Whitman today.

Over the years, Whitman has expanded its catalog to include cornerstone titles and series such as Cherrypickers’ Guide, 100 Greatest, Paper Money of the United States, and the Red Book and Blue Book specialty editions. Our coin boards, folders, and albums have helped organize and display hundreds of thousands of collections, becoming fixtures in households across generations.

Today, Whitman continues this tradition of excellence with innovative publications, industry-standard pricing, thoughtful design, and an unwavering commitment to quality and scholarship. We proudly serve collectors at every stage—from newcomers discovering their first coins to advanced numismatists building world-class collections—fostering lifelong relationships rooted in trust, education, and a shared passion for the hobby.
